Overwhelmingly beautiful, simply indescribable
Awesome. Astonishing. Amazing. These are a mere few of the adjectives that can be used to sum up this A-list luxury property with a picture-perfect panoramic postcard view of Positano and its bay, the Amalfi coast and the island of Capri. Delightfully private and luxurious, the villa is in a quiet area, away from the main stream of tourists, yet just a 10-minute stroll down to the centre of the town. The property is nestled on the hillside within the old town – not far from the church of San Giacomo, which dates back to 700 BC – and first opened its doors to privileged guests in 2013. Pictures fail to do justice to this delightfully beautiful and former merchant’s mansion, with all original features retained and restored to make spectacular luxury villa for the second Millennium. Beautiful 18th century frescoes adorn the ceilings, even in the bedrooms and the villa has a romantic and timeless aura, like classic Neapolitan paintings of old – and also holds captive a heritage of fine art, craftsmanship and a wealth of exquisite antiques, which are on display throughout. The villa’s vivid red coral façade is made from ground shells, corals and lime. This is echoed by the colour and beauty of painted terracotta majolica tiles (a technique special to the Amalfi region). Adornments anywhere are suitably stunning, among them elegant indoor light fixtures and huge terracotta urns lining the colonnade terraces and bearing fragrant orange and lemon trees. The garden around the house is dotted with almond and fig trees and bougainvillea. Then there is the fabulous outside swimming pool – positioned for a majestically sweeping view of the bay that even kids will love – and the expansive splendour of 300 metres of colonnade terraces. A more remarkable setting could not be imagined.
The three-floor villa accommodates 16 guests in 8 double bedrooms en suite: 4 on the ground floor and 4 on the second floor. All are sizeable suites with correspondingly large bathrooms of the highest standard; covered by frescos, dressed in luxury fabrics and adorned with antique ceramics. A grand staircase from the middle hall connects the bedrooms, which open to the corresponding terrace on their respective levels. The main entrance is a stone portico covered in grapevine and opens directly to the gleaming tiled floor of dining terrace and a shimmering sea views. Massive and elegant living rooms provide a stunning luxury of spaciousness and include stately reception and dining rooms, a large library and a beautifully tiled old kitchen, where the chef will prepare traditional dishes for you, using only the finest of local ingredients and the fruit from the lemon and orange trees for juice and homemade breakfast marmalade. There is space aplenty for impressive entertaining: luncheon, cocktail party or supper indoor or outside on the beguiling terraces that are now adapted to play to many a memorable occasions.
At this luxury villa, Positano is below you, the sea is beyond and the helpful and charming staff is at hand to pamper your every whim. Does any five-star holiday get better than this? An aura of classicism and romanticism pervades the air and the quality of amenities here includes a bespoke wedding service. This is a luxury property that is as ideal for a large family as it would be for a group of good for friends sharing a once in a lifetime holiday, reunion or landmark celebration. Wi-Fi is available here, but the villa is not accessible by car (being located on one of the ancient stepped-streets). A porter is available to assist with transfers.
